RFF25: The Last Ambassador

The Taliban rises to power, but Manizha Bakhtari, the Austrian ambassador to Afghanistan, does not fall silent. She loses her position, but continues her work for the people of Afghanistan. Bakhtari finds herself in a difficult situation both financially and in her personal life, but she becomes one of the most vocal and influential opponents of the Taliban regime and defenders of the status of the women of Afghanistan.

The documentary The Last Ambassador, directed by Natalie Halla, will have its Finnish premiere at the Refugee Film Festival. It is a portrait of a courageous woman who uses all possible means to resist the oppressive rule of the Taliban. Bakhtari's motto is: "Peace is not merely the absence of war, but the realization of justice."
